Deep Purple founding member Nick Simper and his Austrian band Nasty Habits released their new album and first vinyl LP titled "Live & Nasty". The record features the vocals of Cry Free singer Attila Scholtz, who has been an official member of the band since 2016.

The material presented on the classic audio format contains 8 songs from a concert recorded at Reigen, Vienna last March: three of Nasty Habits' own compositions and five mk1 Deep Purple tracks, namely Joke / Emmaretta / Cold / Please Don't Go / Why Didn't Rosemary / Help / Lalena / Hush. "Live & Nasty" is a limited edition LP released only in 500 copies, with 150 of them on special purple discs and 350 on traditional black vinyl. The coloured copies sold out within a few weeks, but a small number of the classic ones is still available and can be ordered from the band's website.

The album premiére concert on June 23rd also took place at the Reigen, and the full capacity crowd had the chance to witness a truly magical show in two parts. Although the first set was the usual combination of Deep Purple mk1 songs mixed with the Austrian musicians' own material, the second set had the unique track-by-track presentation of the debut DP album Shades Of Deep Purple celebrating its 50th anniversary. The amazed fans got to hear songs like the breakthrough Hush, which established the band early on, as well as numbers like Hey Joe or Help, which showed how innovative Nick and co. were in the late 60s when it came down to covering other writers' hits. The programme also featured gems like One More Rainy Day (the B side of the Hush single), which was never played live by Deep Purple themselves.


The next chance to see Nick Simper & Nasty Habits perform is on November 9th at Klagenfurt's Eboardmuseum.

This Saturday, 24th June 2017, Cry Free will be joined by English rockers Vambo for a double bill at Gozsdu Mano Klub.

Vambo are a London-based rock band first time playing in Hungary to co-incide with the release of their debut single, Now You See Me. The band’s inspiration comes from the hard rock of the 70s, at the same time they remain contemporary in both songwriting and recording. Vambo have performed at some of the biggest UK festivals - the Isle Of Wight festival, the Stonefree festival at the O2 arena, the Rock and Blues festival and the Giants of Rock festival, the Koko London….opening for Def Leppard, Status Quo, Y&T and Snakecharmer, Hawkwind and Mud.

The second act of the evening is Cry Free. The Hungarian representatives of Deep Purple have been playing tribute to the musical heritage of the classic hard rock band for 22 years, often sharing the stage with their iconic original members. They have played together with founders Jon Lord, Ian Paice, and Nick Simper as their band over 20 times in 4 countries of Europe reaching as far as Asia. In their regularly renewed set, this time they will feature covers off the recently released new DP album inFinite alongside the groundbreaking classics of the 70s.

As we have reported earlier on, Deep Purple's original bass player Nick Simper and his band Nasty Habits approached the Cry Free vocalist to become their permanent singer. Thus, Attila Scholtz, who had only been guesting on the Russian tour of the act two years ago, already performed the set of mk1 Deep Purple songs and Nasty Habits originals as a full-fledged member on the Austria-Poland tour last September.

The year 2017 found the English-Austrian-Hungarian collaboration in Nasty Habits' native Austria again. The band is in the middle of their weekend tour. Last night Nick, Attila, and the Austrian guys hit the stage of Europe's biggest keyboard museum in Klagenfurt rocking the full capacity crowd amongst the invaluable lot of Hammond organs, Fender pianos, and Moog synthesizers. Tonight the classic Viennese club of Reigen will welcome the international act once again and for the second time their "new" Hungarian singer too.

The Cry Free youtube channel has new attractions to check out. We have posted the full audio-visual material of the Xmas acoustic show of last year, and more recently presented the video of a unique international collaboration featuring CF singer Attila Scholtz.

Whereas Deep Purple used to be famous for being "the loudest band in the world" (even acknowledged by the Guinness book of records), at the end of each year their Hungarian followers turn the volume down and unplug their instruments for a quieter approach. The most beautiful ballads as well as entertaining re-works of hard rock songs get to be played at these special occasions. Last time the funk versions of Fireball and Stormbringer as well as the swing version of Smoke On The Water and the country version of Highway Star caused a few eyebrows to frown. :) Check out the whole show here.



The international collaboration below is also worth a visit. Hungarian classic rock act Dog With Two Bones keyboardist George Barabás and his bandmate and guitarist Ádám Antal along with Australian drummer girl Rachel Trainor and Colombian-American bassist lady Catalina Villegas laid down the foundations of the 1984 Deep Purple classic Nobody's Home collaborating with each other virtually from different corners of the world. 20th anniversary concert video on the net4 October 2016, 14:55

Fans of the celebrating band were made to wait a while till they could relive the unique atmosphere of the anniversary concert of January, but a few days ago the 20th Birthday Show finally did appear on YouTube. The 147-minute-long video contains almost the complete original set and features all the performers of the grand anniversary line-up comprising 13 musicians of the all-time Cry Free membership, "tribute brothers" Zep Session, and further friends from the Hungarian music world. Although the recording was made by an amateur crew of fans and friends without any commercial or professional aims, the thrilling 4-cam video edit with the enjoyable sound quality makes it fun to check out.
