CRY FREE (HUN) and PURPENDICULAR (EU) on tour together
JON LORD's band teams up with IAN PAICE's band in Hungary to play tribute to the fantastic musical heritage of DEEP PURPLE stretching over four decades. Two of the most dedicated tribute bands in Europe join forces to cross geographical and musical boundaries. The union of CRY FREE from Hungary and PURPENDICULAR from Ireland, Germany, and Austria aims at no less than presenting the whole Purple story from 1968 to nowadays. The three-hour show will contain material from basically all lineups of the legendary British hard rock band and -to make the "history" absolutely complete -even some of its spin-off acts, such as Whitesnake, Rainbow, Hughes etc.
During the four decades of Deep Purple the group have come up with the most wide-ranging musical material with albums that sometimes sounded like they were made by different bands! This makes "THE DEEP PURPLE HISTORY" a real challenge for the two bands, but they are in the lucky situation that whereas Cry Free usually concentrates on the '69-'76 period, Purpendicular is a great interpreter of the 'Steve Morse era' of the 90's and onwards. This makes the two bands the perfect pair giving fans a unique experience of travelling through time on a Purple journey of more than forty years.
What makes this combination of bands extra special is the fact that both of them are regular "colleagues" of founding members of Deep Purple. While Cry Free has played with organist/composer Jon Lord 7 times in some of the world's most beautiful theatres and a few sports arenas, Purpendicular is the regular backing band of drummer Ian Paice. Both rock icons have repeatedly praised their young "colleagues" for their qualities and their hard work they put into interpreting their songs in a way that's as authentic, dynamic, and hard-hitting as possible.
This seems to prove that perhaps the special mission of ”THE DEEP PURPLE HISTORY” is in the right hands, and the audience can hope to experience the real Deep Purple feeling (or something close to it) without any important time period missing from the set.
The weekend mini tour of Hungary sets off in Kapuvar, in the Western part of the country not far from the beautiful town of Sopron and the border, well within reach for Austrian Deep Purple fans to join the company on Friday. The team of the two bands then move on to Budapest, the capital, where they are scheduled to play one of the country's most prominent rock clubs, Crazy Mama, on Saturday.
