Cry Free news in English again after 3 years! As the band is mostly active in its home country, the visitors to this site are usually from Hungary, which often makes us forget about the translations for which we kindly ask you to forgive us. Recently, however, the Hungarian Deep Purple Cover Band has turned to the west again doing a weekend tour of Germany and a one-off show in the rightly famous Planet Music club in Vienna, Austria in April, which are to be followed by others soon. This is why we decided to upgrade our English news section giving you a summary of the most important events of the past three years.
2005.
In October the band presented a song from Deep Purple's new record Rapture Of The Deep in concert on the very day of the album release!
At the end of the year the new Cry Free double CD and DVD titled (r)Evolution Live came out. The material is the live version of the studio LP called Purple (r)Evolution released the year before.
2006.
In January the band celebrated their 10th anniversary in the biggest Hungarian rock club Wigwam. The gig featured all previous members of Cry Free and special guest, Tamas, who is Hungary's top guitar player and also well-established in many parts of the world. The motto of the show was Ten Years In Rock, and the set covered all the songs of the legendary 1970 Purple album In Rock accompanied by singles of the time. The concert was recorded and filmed to commemorate the special occasion. The first Cry Free T-shirt "Ten Years In Rock" was produced.
In March Wigwam's very own award show Golden Arrow had organist Gabor Soulavy nominated "Keyboardist Of The Year" just like it had done so many times before.
On March 5 the Hungarian Deep Purple Cover Band supported legendary metal act U.D.O. on A38 ship in Budapest. Despite the obvious difference in style, it was so successful that the German tour manager felt it necessary to run on stage and cut the Cry Free show two thirds into the set before the warm-up session got way too hot!
In July the band crossed the borders of their country twice to play Slovakia and Serbia, and also got invitations for longer tours in Romania and Germany.
In October the Cry Free-related Foundation for Hungarian Rock Musicians organised its second national talent contest with a gala concert afterwards featuring the pioneers of the Hungarian tribute scene Kiss Forever Band and Cry Free.
To be continued soon...
