One year...16 July 2013, 23:20

Jon Lord passed away exactly a year ago, on 16 July 2012. Today all communicational channels of the band have been hot, the thoughts of fans and friends (and of course, Cry Free members) kept on coming back over and over again to the beloved Maestro, as everyone was listening to his songs, posting his photos and video recordings, or reminiscing verbally, recalling experiences involving this exceptional figure of rock n roll and excellent gentleman. Naturally, on this day we must commemorate our dear Jon here at cryfree.hu as well, and we will do so by playing you one of his most beautiful and at the same time saddest songs which he himself happened to hear live for the first time in Budapest in 2010, 35 years after recording it in the studio. The song is called Aria, and it's the third piece of his Sarabande suite. Cry Free singer Attila Scholtz was standing next to Lord during the full rehearsal at Palace Of Arts, when he was first faced with the effect his newly orchestrated symphonic version of the original 1975 synthesizer piece had on the listener including the composer himself. "It's sooo sad", whispered Jon, still mesmerized by the power of the old-new song played live, and then started telling the singer how he was inspired to write the song back in the seventies. Although Saturday's Jon Lord memorial concert with Cry Free promises to be a really positive and uplifting experience, on this very day, on the first anniversary of Jon's passing, let us remember him by listening to this mournfully beautiful song.
