Cry Free - Deep Purple's Favourite Tribute

Cry Free are currently working on a new concert speciality that they are planning to present at about a dozen venues all over their native Hungary and in Western Europe till the end of the year. The Hungarian Deep Purple Cover Band is one of the tribute acts (if not "the" tribute act) with the fastest-growing repertoire and the most frequently varied show. To give you a few examples, let us remind you how they started out in January this year by playing tribute to Deep Purple's first visit to Budapest on its 25th anniversary by presenting Purple's full 1987 live set, then moving on to do an "In Rock" tribute show in April with the complete musical material of the legendary 1970 DP record plus contemporary extras, and then began the autumn season two weeks ago with the 4th 'attack' of their special double project "Purple Zeppelin Jam", this time including 7 new Led Zeppelin tracks alongside the 'regular' Purple updates. You can see more examples of this versatility from the past further below, but what is it now that Cry Free are up to?

The year 2012 brought along an important Deep Purple anniversary, which is being commemorated all over the world by rock fans, and which of course could not be ignored by Cry Free either. It's the 40th 'birthday' of the "Machine Head" album, perhaps the most successful Deep Purple publication ever, which also contains the band's trade mark hit, "Smoke On The Water". Other tracks from the record such as "Highway Star", "Lazy", and "Space Trucking" have also been key elements of the live Purple set for 40 years (as well as those of the Cry Free set for almost 17 years), but in their anniversary programme the Hungarian followers will include all the Machine Head songs (each one a killer) accompanied by the contemporary bonus "When A Blind Man Cries".

"Made In Japan", the other groundbreaking Deep Purple record, which is considered by many the greatest live album of all time is also 40 years old this year, and it contains -besides other remarkable material -the live versions of the Machine Head songs lifted even higher by the powerful accelerator of the presence of an audience. Cry Free are therefore combining the contents of the two records to try and bring out the best of the Machine Head songs commemorating both the studio and the live recordings. The guys have already started rehearsing this exciting new set, and can't wait to perform it first in Budapest on 26 October, and then to go on tour with it in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland in November.
